Baseball Recap: Valley Comes Up Short

Valley suffered their biggest loss since February 27th on Tuesday. They lost 17-3 to the Sandia Matadors. The Vikings have struggled against the Matadors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Anthony Chavez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run. He has become a key player for Valley: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least one home run, but 4-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Elias Saiz, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Sandia, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley will square off against Cibola at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Valley's pitchers better be ready for this one: Cibola has averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Sandia, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Los Lunas at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
