Baseball Recap: Canfield Comes Up Short

After flying high against Greeneville on Thursday, Canfield came back down to earth. The Cardinals came up short against the Sevier County Smoky Bears on Friday, falling 10-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cardinals have suffered since March 28, 2024.

Canfield got a good showing from Will Murphy, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Murphy has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Joey Gabriel was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Zain Jadallah also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Canfield's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Sevier County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-14 record this season.

While Canfield had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
