Basketball Recap: Fort Morgan Comes Up Short

Fort Morgan lost against Eaton back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Fort Morgan Mustangs took a 59-40 bruising from the Eaton Reds. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 237th, while the Reds are ranked 108th).

Despite the loss, Fort Morgan still got an impressive performance from Brodin Jess, who posted nine points. The dominant performance also gave Jess a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (67%). JJ Marquez was another key player, going 5-for-7 en route to 12 points.

Eaton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Crew Haythorn led the charge by going 6-for-14 on his way to 15 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Noah Sprinkle, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 13 points and seven rebounds.

Fort Morgan has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Eaton, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.

Fort Morgan has already played their next contest, a 60-37 defeat against University on the 6th. As for Eaton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 57-48 win against Sterling on the 6th.
