Baseball Recap: Wewahitchka Picks Up Third Straight Win at Home

Wewahitchka won the last time they faced Vernon and things went their way on Monday too. The Wewahitchka Gators came out on top against the Vernon Yellowjackets by a score of 15-12. While the Gators didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Walker Bailey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Rhemy Patrick and Landon Whitten did most of the damage at the plate: Patrick scored two runs and stole Six bases. while going 2-for-3, while Whitten went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. With that strong performance, Patrick is now averaging an impressive 1.3 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Jakwavian Gray, who scored three runs while going 1-for-3.

Wewahitchka kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games.

Wewahitchka's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.3 runs over those games. As for Vernon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wewahitchka will challenge Malone at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Vernon, they will face off against Chipley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
