Mendota is 9-1 against Avenal since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Mendota Aztecs will be playing at home against the Avenal Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. Mendota's last four games have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Mendota is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Coalinga just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They and the Horned Toads finished up their contest with a 3-3 draw. The result kept the Aztecs happy, as they haven't lost a game since December 23, 2024.

Meanwhile, Avenal's game on Friday was all tied up 1-1 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They had just enough and edged Firebaugh out 2-1. Given the Buccaneers' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 487th, while the Eagles are ranked 1029th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Avenal pushed their record up to 15-2-4 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 42 goals over those nine games. Mendota's draw makes their record 12-3-3 this season.

Everything went Mendota's way against Avenal in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as Mendota made off with a 9-1 victory. Will Mendota repeat their success, or does Avenal have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
