Basketball Recap: Northern Comes Up Short

If Northern was riding high fresh off their 53-12 takedown of McDonough last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Northern Patriots took a 47-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huntingtown Hurricanes. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hurricanes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 40-29 back in December of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Northern lost on Friday, don't look at Sydney Prince. Despite the final result, she went 8-for-16 to rack up 19 points in addition to five boards and five steals. Those five steals gave Prince a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Erin Murphy, who posted three points and five rebounds.

Northern's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Huntingtown, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2.

Northern has already played their next contest, a 63-19 defeat against Allegany on the 15th. As for Huntingtown, they will challenge Lackey at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Lackey has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
