Baseball Game Preview: Roncalli Royals vs. Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Braves

Roncalli is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will host the Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory Braves at 6:00 p.m. Roncalli will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Roncalli is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Gibson Southern, who was ranked 14th at the time (Roncalli was ranked 13th). The Royals beat the Titans on Monday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 4-2.

Jaiden Kuria spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Rudy Schoettle and Collin Ash did most of the damage at the plate: Schoettle scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Ash scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Schoettle has posted since back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory didn't have quite enough to beat Indianapolis Lutheran on Saturday and fell 7-6. The Braves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Anthony Suscha made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs, three runs, and one double while going 3-for-3.

Roncalli's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Roncalli has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Roncalli beat Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory 6-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Royals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Braves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
