Basketball Recap: Kendra Weth's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cocoa Beach over Merritt Island Christian

Cocoa Beach lost against Merritt Island Christian back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cocoa Beach Minutemen came up short against the Merritt Island Christian Cougars, falling 58-33. The Minutemen have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cocoa Beach's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kendra Weth, who posted 15 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Those 15 points gave Weth a new career-high. Baylea Holland was another key player, putting up six points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Cocoa Beach smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Merritt Island Christian only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Merritt Island Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Summer Snaith, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 boards. Snaith has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Keri Shea, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 assists.

Cocoa Beach's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Merritt Island Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9.

Cocoa Beach wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 34-27 win against Merritt Island on the 14th. As for Merritt Island Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 41-37 victory against Rockledge on the 13th.
