Basketball Recap: Early County Triumphs

Early County won the last time they faced Miller County and things went their way on Monday too. The Early County Bobcats managed a 43-39 win over the Miller County Pirates.

Early County had a senior duo take command as Nakevia Brown dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards and Ka?Lyiah Ogden posted seven points in addition to seven steals and five rebounds. Early County is 13-5 when Brown posts ten or more boards, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty'Jerrica Russell, who scored ten points along with six assists and three steals.

Early County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Miller County only pulled down six offensive boards.

Despite the loss, Miller County still got an impressive performance from Zariyona Williams, who went 6 of 14 en route to 16 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. That's the most steals Williams has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Rhamya Hughes, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 10 points.

Early County's victory bumped their record up to 14-7. As for Miller County, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Early County will venture away from home to challenge Terrell County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Miller County, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mitchell County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
