Softball Recap: Paw Paw's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Paw Paw dropped their record down to 14-2-2 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins at home. They fell 8-3 to the Dowagiac Chieftains. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chieftains this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-0 back in April.

As for Dowagiac, the win (which was their 15th in a row) raised their record to 31-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.9 runs over those games.

For Dowagiac's part, Bree Campbell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 18 Ks. Campbell has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Dowagiac let Olivia McIntosh and Marlie Carpenter run wild. McIntosh went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Carpenter went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Addie Wilson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Paw Paw beat Dowagiac by a score of 5-2 later that day.
