Jeffery Simmons, a 5-star defensive end from Noxubee County (Macon, Miss.), has picked Mississippi State as his destination to play college football.

The 6-foot-4, 277-pound standout is regarded as the third-best defensive end in the nation and No. 19 recruit overall by 247Sports.

He had 14 offers and stayed close to home on his official visits, first attending Tennessee on Nov. 6, followed by Mississippi State (Jan. 15), Alabama (Jan. 22) and Ole Miss (Jan. 29).

A participant in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl last month, Simmons had a terrific senior season with 105 tackles, 18.5 sacks, 21 hurries and five pass deflections. Not bad for playing just one side of the field.
