Softball Game Preview: Valley Center Jaguars vs. Westview Wolverines

Valley Center is 2-8 against Westview since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Jaguars will host the Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. Valley Center has given up an average of 10.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Valley Center's offense. They came up short against San Pasqual on Thursday, falling 12-0.

Meanwhile, Westview waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Cougars a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Wolverines have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Kaya Rodriguez's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Westview let Kiana Rodriguez and Abby Peake run wild. Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Peake went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Rodriguez has posted since back in March. Kamilla Taraila was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Westview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Escondido only posted an OBP of .062.

Westview's victory bumped their record up to 14-4-2. As for Valley Center, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
