Recap: Atchison Phoenix vs. Jefferson County North Chargers
It was a good run, but the Atchison Phoenix unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Jefferson County North by a score of 51-48. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Atchison of the 55-51 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
Several Phoenix players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Presley Simpson, who scored 27 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Simpson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaiya Downing, who scored ten points along with two blocks.
Atchison's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Jefferson County North, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Atchison will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Sumner Academy on Friday. As for Jefferson County North, they will be playing at home against Northeast Kansas Nighthawks HomeSchool at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Northeast Kansas Nighthawks HomeSchool is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
