Volleyball Recap: River Pilots vs. Southern Indians
River's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They walked away with a 3-1 win over the Southern Indians. For the Pilots, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 victory the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2018.
River had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 25-27, 25-15, 25-22, 25-15.
Mallarie Maddy paced River's offense, picking up 16 kills. Maddy got some help from Maci Isaly and her 37 assists. Isaly was also solid from the service line: she led the team with seven aces.
Southern lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Brooke Boyle, who had 12 digs and one assist.
The win got River back to even at 8-8. As for Southern, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
Looking ahead, River will be playing at home against Catholic Central at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Southern, they will head out on the road to challenge Leetonia at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
