Baseball Recap: Cary Comes Up Short

If Cary was riding high fresh off their 11-0 takedown of Knightdale last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Imps lost 19-7 to the Athens Drive Jaguars on Saturday. The Imps were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Jaguars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Owen Green made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Markus Hart, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Cary dropped their record down to 4-10 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Athens Drive, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-9.

Coming up, Cary will face off against Apex Friendship at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Imps' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Athens Drive, they are taking a road trip to square off against Cardinal Gibbons at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Jaguars surely won't give up without a fight.
