Basketball Recap: Capital City Gets Big Win over Higher-Ranked Linn

While Capital City didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-21), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They had just enough and edged the Linn Wildcats out 47-45. The win was all the more spectacular given the Cavaliers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while the Wildcats are ranked 32nd).

Linn's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Vivien Baker, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Baker is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Paige Senevey was another key player, putting up eight points and nine boards.

The victory made it two in a row for Capital City and bumps their season record up to 7-5. As for Linn, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Capital City will face off against Rock Bridge at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Rock Bridge's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests. As for Linn, they will challenge Fatima at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
