Baseball Recap: Mohawk Area's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Mohawk Area proved they can win big on Monday (they won by seven) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Hickory Hornets 3-2. The win was familiar territory for the Warriors, who have now won three games in a row.

Jackson Chapman and Vinny Pezzuolo made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Chapman tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Pezzuolo struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Chapman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Chapman went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Pezzuolo went 1-for-2 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run was Chapman's first of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dillan Deal, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.

Mohawk Area lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Mohawk Area pushed their record up to 10-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hickory, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mohawk Area will face off against Sharpsville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hickory, they will take on Franklin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
