Basketball Game Preview: Forrest Rockets vs. Cannon County Lions

The Forrest Rockets will head out to square off against the Cannon County Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Forrest is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Battle Creek: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Forrest blew Battle Creek out of the water with a 66-15 final score. The Rockets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Cannon County had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They walked away with a 55-43 victory over the Champions. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Champions are ranked 167th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cannon County is also on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.5 points per game. As for Forrest, they pushed their record up to 10-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Forrest was taken down by Cannon County 65-36 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Forrest was down 45-20.
