Softball Recap: Rocky Mount Gryphons vs. Franklinton Rams
Sadly, Rocky Mount is still looking for their first win of the season after 18 matches. They fell victim to a tough 29-11 loss at the hands of the Franklinton Rams on Tuesday. Even if Rocky Mount couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Jada Bernard stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Tinklepaugh, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
On Franklinton's side, Madison Lada was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Lada has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances. Lada was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
In other batting news, Allie Mabrey was incredible, going 4-for-4 with a home run, five runs, and six RBI. Another player making a difference was Brooke Garbooshian, who scored five runs while going 5-for-5.
Rocky Mount's defeat dropped their record down to 0-18. As for Franklinton, their win bumped their record up to 5-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rocky Mount will take on Northern Nash at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
