Softball Recap: Hattiesburg Comes Up Short

After flying high against Perry Central last Friday, Hattiesburg came back down to earth. Hattiesburg fell 8-5 to the West Jones Mustangs on Monday. The Tigers have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Camiyah Craft was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Craft was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, Darriyah Walls was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing six bases while going 1-for-4. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Kylee Andrews was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Hattiesburg's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for West Jones, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 2-11-1 record.

Coming up, Hattiesburg will take on Tylertown at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for West Jones, they will face off against Wayne County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
