Baseball Game Preview: St. Thomas More Cougars vs. Sapulpa Chieftains

The St. Thomas More Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Sapulpa Chieftains at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

St. Thomas More had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt New Iberia on Monday. The Cougars never let the Yellowjackets get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Considering the Cougars have won four matchups by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Cooper Hawkins, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Landyn Craft also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

St. Thomas More hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Iberia struck out nine times.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Sapulpa and Tulsa NOAH HomeSchool, and Sapulpa kept the tradition alive. The Chieftains put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 9-1 victory on Tuesday. The Chieftains not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 14, 2025 (when they won 9-0).

St. Thomas More's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sapulpa, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
