Basketball Recap: Eliseo Velasquez and Mateo Gonzalez Secure Win for Rio Grande

The third road match was the charm for Rio Grande, as they earned their first road win of the season. They snuck past the Belen Eagles with a 44-38 victory on Saturday. That's more bragging rights for the Ravens, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Rio Grande was led to victory by Mateo Gonzalez and Eliseo Velasquez. Gonzalez dropped a double-double on 15 points and 20 boards, while Velasquez posted 15 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Gonzalez a new career-high in rebounds.

Rio Grande smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Rio Grande's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Belen, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
