Basketball Game Preview: Waconia Wildcats vs. Orono Spartans

The Waconia Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Orono Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

It was a proper cat-fight when Waconia duked it out with Jefferson on Tuesday. Waconia was the clear victors by a 75-54 margin over Jefferson. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Orono, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 80-65 win over Chanhassen on Tuesday. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Storm are ranked 40th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Orono pushed their record up to 22-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.5 points over those games. As for Waconia, their win bumped their record up to 8-16.

Waconia came up short against Orono in their previous matchup back in January, falling 69-59. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Orono's Mya Moore, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and ten assists. Now that Waconia knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
