Basketball Recap: Gilpin County Comes Up Short

Gilpin County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 41st straight loss dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Clear Creek Golddiggers, falling 72-30. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-14.

Zephyrus Schuessler continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Clear Creek, almost dropping a double-double with 23 points and nine assists. The dominant performance gave Schuessler a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Donovan Duke, who en route to 19 points in addition to eight boards and five assists.

Gilpin County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-21. As for Clear Creek, their win bumped their record up to 6-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gilpin County will venture away from home to square off against Union Colony Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Union Colony Prep has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Clear Creek, they will head out on the road to challenge Denver Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Denver Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Clear Creek likes a good challenge.
