Softball Recap: West Vigo Victorious

West Vigo took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Sullivan, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Golden Arrows 6-4. The game was the first time the Vikings have beaten the Golden Arrows on their field since May 23, 2019.

Jaleigh Lindley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaycee Elkins, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Janelle Sullivan was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

West Vigo hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sullivan struck out 11 times.

The win made it two in a row for West Vigo and bumps their season record up to 17-1. As for Sullivan, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-9.

Coming up, West Vigo will challenge Edgewood at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 2.7, the Mustangs 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Sullivan, they will take on Gibson Southern at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
