Basketball Recap: MacArthur Comes Up Short

MacArthur lost against Jay back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The MacArthur Brahmas were outmatched by the Jay Mustangs and fell 93-34. While losing is never fun, the Brahmas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 991st, while the Mustangs are ranked 38th).

MacArthur's loss came despite strong showings from Cash Slaughter and Darryl Copeland. Slaughter posted 13 points and three steals, while Copeland went 6 of 9 en route to 12 points. That's the most points Copeland has posted since back in November of 2023.

It was another big night for Jaiden Guillen, who went 7 for 13 from beyond the arc on his way to 46 points for Jay. Guillen has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jarrius Jackson Jr, who went 5 of 7 en route to 12 points in addition to eight assists and six rebounds.

MacArthur has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-20 record this season. As for Jay, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 26-2.

MacArthur has already played their next matchup, a 73-52 victory against Southside on the 28th. As for Jay, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 80-60 win against Harlandale on the 28th.
