Softball Recap: Burns' Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

Burns dropped their record down to 12-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the R-S Central Hilltoppers, falling 7-0. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Bulldogs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for R-S Central, their record is now 15-6. They haven't had any issues with Burns recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

For R-S Central's part, not much got past Maeli Crain, who gave up just five hits to keep Burns off the board. Crain has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Layna Jeffords, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ella Hasty, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Burns does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for R-S Central, they will square off against T.C. Roberson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
