Baseball Game Preview: Chugiak Mustangs vs. Bartlett Golden Bears

Chugiak is 6-1 against Bartlett since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field against the Golden Bears at 6:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Chugiak's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Bartlett has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Chugiak is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Dimond, who was ranked tenth at the time (Chugiak was ranked 12th). The Mustangs skirted past the Lynx 7-6. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Lynx recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Owen Dockstader spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Blake Yawit was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Chugiak is 2-1 when Yawit posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Lux, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Bartlett fell victim to South Anchorage and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Wolverines, falling 10-0.

Chugiak's victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Bartlett, their loss dropped their record down to 0-12.

Chugiak took their win against Bartlett in their previous matchup on Friday by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Golden Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
