Basketball Game Preview: St. Thomas More Sabers vs. Prairie Central Hawks

After both having extra time off, the St. Thomas More Sabers and the Prairie Central Hawks will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, St. Thomas More turned things around against Paxton-Buckley-Loda two weeks ago. They came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 25-13.

Meanwhile, Prairie Central posted their biggest win since December 22, 2023 two weeks ago. They blew past Newark 52-27. The victory was some much needed relief for the Hawks as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Prairie Central found their leader in sophomore Jayla Hammond, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave Hammond a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cami Slagel, who posted 11 points.

Prairie Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive games.

Prairie Central's win bumped their record up to 4-11. As for St. Thomas More, their victory bumped their record up to 4-8.

St. Thomas More beat Prairie Central 36-25 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Will St. Thomas More repeat their success, or does Prairie Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
