Baseball Recap: Central Takes a Loss

Central lost to Holtville back in May of 2025 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Spartans took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings.

Ricardo Miranda was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2025.

At the plate, Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Christopher Curiel, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Curiel has become a key player for the Spartans: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-12-1 otherwise. Another was Sebastian Ojeda, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Central has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13-1 record this season. As for Holtville, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 11-11.

Coming up, Holtville will challenge Rock Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. Central will be paying especially close attention to Holtville's matchup: after Holtville faces off against Rock Academy, they'll take on Central again at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
