Basketball Recap: Upper St. Clair Beats New Castle for Their Fifth Straight Win

It's playoff time, and Upper St. Clair had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the New Castle Hurricanes with a sharp 65-43 victory on Friday. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matches by 20 points or more this season.

New Castle's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ralphie Blundo, who posted 13 points. Kai Cox was another key player, putting up five points in addition to eight assists and seven boards.

The win was the fifth in a row for Upper St. Clair, bringing their record for this year to 23-2. As for New Castle, they moved to 21-4 with that loss, which also ended their nine-game winning streak.

Upper St. Clair and New Castle should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. Upper St. Clair will take on William Penn at 1:00 p.m. on March 8th up 118 places (6 vs. 124). Meanwhile, New Castle (ranked 23rd) will meet Hickory (ranked 86th) at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
