Softball Game Preview: Lewis Cass Kings vs. Wabash Apaches

The Lewis Cass Kings will square off against the Wabash Apaches at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Lewis Cass will be strutting in after a victory while Wabash will be coming in after a defeat.

Lewis Cass will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against Delphi Community on Saturday. The Kings were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over the Oracles. Considering the Kings' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Ruth (Amma) Fitzhugh made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Laney Davis, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Hubner, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Meanwhile, Wabash lost 9-1 to Whitko on Wednesday.

Wabash now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Lewis Cass, their win bumped their record up to 7-11.

Wabash's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lewis Cass hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. It's a different story for Wabash, though, as they've only averaged .246. Will they be able to contain Lewis Cass' hitters?
