Basketball Recap: Streetsboro Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Streetsboro couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They lost to the Laurel Gators on the road by a 62-47 margin on Saturday. The Rockets' defeat signaled the end of their 11-game winning streak.

Streetsboro's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Naomi Benson, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 14 boards. Benson has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlee Bedford, who posted 12 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Streetsboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Streetsboro's defeat dropped their record down to 23-4. As for Laurel, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-13.

Streetsboro does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Laurel, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bellevue at 3:00 p.m. on March 8th. Bellevue will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something Laurel surely won't give up without a fight.
