Recap: Sandia Matadors vs. West Mesa Mustangs
On Wednesday, the Sandia Matadors faced the West Mesa Mustangs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Sandia ended up on the wrong side of a tough 87-66 walloping at the hands of West Mesa. Sandia's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Sandia still got an impressive performance from Thomas Adams, who scored 32 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Adams has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jahmil Crayton Johnson, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Sandia's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-8. As for West Mesa, they pushed their record up to 14-6 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sandia will play host again and welcome Farmington, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sandia has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,298 points over their last 18 games. As for West Mesa, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against La Cueva at 2:00 p.m. One thing working in La Cueva's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 19 matchups.
