Basketball Recap: Thursday's Defeat Ends Calvary Chapel Christian Academy's Winning Streak

Calvary Chapel Christian Academy easily dispatched McCauley Christian Academy last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Calvary Chapel Christian Academy Archangels fell just short of the Vanguard Christian Knights by a score of 46-43 on Thursday. The Archangels' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Several Archangels players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nash Avitia, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Avitia has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Jonathan Macasadia was another key player, putting up 18 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Calvary Chapel Christian Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vanguard Christian only racked up eight assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vanguard Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sam Schoenfeld, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Robertson, who posted 12 points and three steals.

Calvary Chapel Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Vanguard Christian, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Calvary Chapel Christian Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Annapolis Christian Academy at 2:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025. As for Vanguard Christian, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Leakey at 6:00 p.m.
