Volleyball Recap: Carbon Triumphs

Carbon proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by three) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Juan Diego Catholic Soaring Eagle 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Dinos in their matchups with the Soaring Eagle: they've now won three in a row.

Carbon had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 20-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19, 18-16.

Carbon found their leader in sophomore Grant Mathis, who had 12 digs and three aces. Those 12 digs set a new season-high mark for Mathis.

Carbon was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. They are a perfect 6-0 when they serve at least ten aces.

Carbon now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Juan Diego Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Carbon is set to take on their familiar foe Juab at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Juan Diego Catholic will face off against rival American Heritage at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
