Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Hermon

Hermon extended their winning streak to three on Monday, bumping their season record up to 4-1 in the process. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Mount Desert Island Trojans a 5-0 shutout. The Hawks' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three games.

The result came thanks to Mikelle Verrill's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Katie Fowler was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Kenzie Gallant also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mount Desert Island fell to 2-1. Trojans fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against Hermon since on Monday.

On Mount Desert Island's side, Taylor Grant spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, Mount Desert Island saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Hodgdon, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.

Looking ahead, Hermon will face off against Old Town at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mount Desert Island, they will take on Hampden at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Broncos have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
