Baseball Game Preview: Bethany Community Wolves vs. Atkins Camels

The Bethany Community Wolves will square off against the Atkins Camels at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bethany Community will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Last Wednesday, Bethany Community made easy work of Oak Ridge Military Academy and carried off a 14-2 win. Considering the Wolves have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jacob Schick made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Ryan Rudd and Jesse Tucker did most of the damage at the plate: Rudd scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3, while Tucker scored three runs and stole five bases. Those three stolen bases gave Rudd a new career-high. Nathan West was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases.

Bethany Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Atkins, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top against Salisbury by a score of 8-4 on Wednesday.

Bethany Community's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Atkins, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-14.
