Basketball Recap: Grant Park Gets the Win

Grant Park's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They escaped with a win against Donovan/St. Anne by the margin of a single free throw, 42-41. This was a revenge game for the Dragons: when they faced off against Donovan/St. Anne back in December of 2024, they had to take a 42-27 loss.

Grant Park's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Claire Sluis led the charge by putting up 13 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Marcotte, who posted six points and five boards.

Grant Park smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive contests.

Several Donovan/St. Anne players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tiffany DeYoung, who scored eight points and 16 rebounds. That's the most boards DeYoung has posted since back in December of 2024. Laylah Lou Walters was another key player, earning 18 points and six rebounds.

Grant Park's record is now 10-13. As for Donovan/St. Anne, they dropped their record down to 12-13 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Grant Park wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 28-21 loss against Momence on the 13th. As for Donovan/St. Anne, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 37-35 win against Gardner-South Wilmington on the 11th.
