Softball Game Preview: Westminster Academy Lions vs. West Port Wolf Pack

The Westminster Academy Lions will square off against the West Port Wolf Pack at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Westminster Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so West Port's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Friday just wasn't the day for Westminster Academy's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cardinal Gibbons on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Port). They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over Poinciana on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Wolf Pack, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Alena Ishman made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, West Port let Brooklyn Schoepke and Ashley Zimmerman run wild. Schoepke scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Zimmerman scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Zimmerman has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachael McCumber, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

West Port kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Poinciana only managed two hits.

Westminster Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season. West Port's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-7.
