Basketball Recap: Trenton Montez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hoopeston over Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin

If Hoopeston was feeling good fresh off their 73-44 takedown of Cissna Park last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hoopeston Cornjerkers took a 51-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin Blue Devils on Friday. That makes it the first time this season the Cornjerkers have let down their home crowd.

Hoopeston's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trenton Montez, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 15 points. Zach Huchel was another key player, putting up nine points and six boards.

Keison Peoples continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, going 8 of 13 en route to 31 points. The matchup was Peoples' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Keleminic, who posted seven points and six rebounds.

Hoopeston's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 15-8. As for Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 24-0.

Hoopeston wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 69-35 win against Iroquois West on the 4th. As for Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 77-53 victory against Chrisman on the 4th.
