Volleyball Game Preview: Mabel-Canton Cougars vs. Spring Grove Lions + How To Watch

Mabel-Canton is a perfect 10-0 against Spring Grove since November of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cougars are taking a road trip to challenge the Lions at 7:00 p.m. Mabel-Canton is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Mabel-Canton faced off against Schaeffer Academy on Tuesday. The Cougars blew past the Lions 3-0.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Mabel-Canton took every set by at least 17 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-3, 25-5, 25-8.

Mabel-Canton found their leader in sophomore Kaci Wangsness, who had seven aces and four digs. Another player making a difference was Gwenyth Rein, who had 27 assists and six digs.

Mabel-Canton was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 17 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Spring Grove got the win against Houston on Tuesday by a conclusive 3-0.

Spring Grove was especially dominant in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 25-19, 25-16.

Spring Grove's win bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Mabel-Canton, their victory bumped their record up to 26-3.

Mabel-Canton came out on top in a nail-biter against Spring Grove in their previous meeting back in September, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
