Recap: Amphitheater Panthers vs. Canyon del Oro Dorados
The Amphitheater Panthers put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 48-34 victory over Canyon del Oro. That's another feather in the cap for Amphitheater, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Amphitheater's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kayla Tuakalau led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Tuakalau's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shanise Bustamante, who scored 9 points along with 7 steals and 5 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Canyon del Oro saw an underclassman step up: Anna Coleman scored 19 points along with 4 steals. Another player making a difference was Halie Fuller, who scored 4 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Amphitheater pushed their record up to 6-0 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Canyon del Oro, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Amphitheater will head out on the road to face off against Flowing Wells at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Flowing Wells is ranked 44th, while Amphitheater is ranked 63rd). As for Canyon del Oro, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on December 7th.
