Baseball Recap: Merritt Academy Takes a Loss

Merritt Academy lost against Algonac back in May of 2019, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Mustangs came up short against the Muskrats, falling 16-1. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Merritt Academy got a good showing from Brody Westhouse, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Westhouse has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Merritt Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Dupuis, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Blaiden Berry also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Merritt Academy now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Algonac, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Merritt Academy will face off against Peck at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Algonac, they will square off against Caro at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Muskrats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
