Baseball Recap: Garden City Takes a Loss

Garden City extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 6-15 in the process. They came up short against the Great Bend Panthers, falling 15-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 back in March.

Drew Strecker and Jakobe Rathbun did some serious damage despite the final result: Strecker went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Rathbun got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Garden City is 2-1 when Strecker posts three or more RBI, but 4-14 otherwise.

As for Great Bend, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Great Bend, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.

On Great Bend's side, they got a massive performance out of Owen Kaiser, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Kaiser a new career-high. Daxton Minton was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

While Garden City had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
