Softball Game Preview: Libertyville Wildcats vs. Stevenson Patriots

The Libertyville Wildcats will square off against the Stevenson Patriots at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Libertyville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Libertyville fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Warren Township on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 2-1. The Wildcats' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Taylor Higham spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Libertyville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Callie Hill, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Stevenson waltzed into their game on Monday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They put the hurt on the Bears with a sharp 11-1 victory. That's two games straight that the Patriots have won by exactly ten runs.

Stevenson also let their pitcher toss all six innings played and she was also dialed-in: Ava Potempa gave up a run (which was unearned) on one hit. Potempa has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Jasmine Lucero was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Addison Pak was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Stevenson pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Libertyville, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5.
