Owen Horne made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with seven RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, Quincy Swaim was excellent, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Joey Huxta was another key player, going 1-for-5 with three RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Philipsburg-Osceola fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Bellefonte on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 5-4.
Like Bedford, Philipsburg-Osceola also got a great game from a two-way player: Archer Baughman. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Baughman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Baughman wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Guenot, who went 2-for-4 with one run.
Bedford pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Philipsburg-Osceola, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-3.
Bedford couldn't quite finish off Philipsburg-Osceola when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Bisons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
