Gallatin County's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They never let the Pope County Pirates get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Not much got past Owen Wargel, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Pope County off the board.
At the plate, Aiden Combs was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kaden Downen, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
The victory got Gallatin County back to even at 5-5. As for Pope County, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gallatin County will face off against Carrier Mills-Stonefort at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pope County, they will take on North Clay/Clay City on Saturday. North Clay/Clay City will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Pope County surely won't give up without a fight.
