Volleyball Recap: Vail Mountain Rangers vs. Caprock Academy Eagles
Vail Mountain extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 4-7. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Caprock Academy Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rangers of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.
Weston Phillips paced Vail Mountain's offense, picking up 17 kills. Phillips got some help from Izzy Adochio and her 16 assists. Phillips was also solid from the service line: she led the team with six aces.
As for Caprock Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since October 1, 2021, but that streak is no more.
Caprock Academy found their leader in freshman Tiara Gonzalez Cardenas, who had four aces and three digs. Alaina Scripps also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Vail Mountain didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 loss against Vail Christian on the 23rd. As for Caprock Academy, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Grand Valley at 6:00 p.m. on the 30th.
