Basketball Recap: Jarrett Smeltzer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead North Platte over Gering

North Platte was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 47-37 to Gering. North Platte was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Gering apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jarrett Smeltzer, who posted seven points. The dominant performance also gave Smeltzer a new career-high in boards (four). Another player making a difference was Sam Uehling, who earned five points.

North Platte's loss dropped their record down to 2-20. As for Gering, their win bumped their record up to 9-11.

North Platte and Gering could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. North Platte will challenge Gretna East at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 213 places (233 vs. 20). Similarly, Gering (ranked 118th) will meet Ogallala (ranked sixth) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
